For all businesses, and freelancers especially, attracting new clients or customers can be one of the biggest challenges. Whether you are just starting out or you’re a growing business. Getting new clients means putting yourself out there, so here are my 5 easy tips of getting found by new clientele.
1. Invest in your website
Your website is your most powerful asset. Your website is the first place perspective clients tend to go to find out more information about a company. So you need to ensure that your website is high quality and up to date. So if you are lacking a website, they may not believe the business is legitimate or even exist.
Or even worse, have you ever landed on a website that looks old, dated, with broken elements… and thought, “this must be spam or a closed down business”. People tend to trust the legitimacy of a company based on good design, and dis-trust poor design.
Ensure your website explains your business and services, has high quality images or video and a quality brand design that is consistent and recognisable.
2. Grow your SEO (on-page & off-page)
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the optimisation of your website to ensure that it is found on search engines. There are many ways you can improve your SEO, (find out more about how to do that here). The main thing to be considering though, is your website content targeting your business and services enough? The more you discuss a topic, the more your website, and in turn your business, will be found through search engines. This is all on-page SEO, off-page SEO is the work you do outside of your website to help your SEO. This can include backlinking, which are links on websites other than your own that go back to a page on your website. It’s even more helpful if your website is being linked on highly ranked and trusted websites. These can be anything from directories to industry community websites.
3. Build a network
From LinkedIn to Facebook groups; Community is vital when you are growing a business. Don’t compete with your competition, but work with them. Connect with people in your industry, in your local area, people who are growing their business or freelancing just like you. The struggles you are facing have been faced before, so why not connect with these people and support each other.
Not only will this help support you, but you will find sharing clients across different industries is common. You never know who will need your services, and the larger your network, the bigger the chance of someone recommending you to new clients.
4. Reviews are key
Ask your clients to leave a review after every purchase or completion of services. You may feel like you are being needy, but everyone understands that that’s how you grow businesses. People trust people, so if you have lots of reviews, especially highly rated reviews, you are going to get more clients/customers.
5. Consistent social media interaction
I don’t just mean posting every few days either. Social media may feel like a minefield, but if your target audience are using a social media platform, so should you. Not only should you be posting great content that relates to their needs, but be sure to interact with them too. Comment on posts they will be looking at, follow accounts that they will be too, like posts that are in your industry. This will boost your chances of them finding your account and getting them as a new client.
